WELCOME TO MUSIC!!

My passion is teaching the art and discipline of music to developing young minds. Children are different and precious in their own way. Music gives us ways to move our bodies, be silly, be creative, express our feelings, and interact. Your child does not have to have a particular skill to feel valued in my class. THEY'RE ALL MY FAVORITES!

ABOUT ME:
I love all kinds of music, so my playlists on shuffle are like...

I believe music is fun and should also be taken seriously. Music objectives are assessed in a variety of ways. Sometimes we may have a paper and pencil activity, but most often we are learning music and performing it in class. We sing, dance, and play instruments. We work independently and in groups. My expectation is not perfection, but that students are putting in effort and experiencing growth. Here's how to prepare for success:

WHAT TO WEAR
Please ask your child which day of the week his or her class attends Music. It is important that he or she is dressed appropriately for sitting on the floor, kneeling to play barred instruments, and performing movement activities such as skipping or galloping. Tennis shoes (no flip flops or high heels) and comfortable bottoms (no tight skirts or tight jeans) are best for these types of activities.

WHAT TO BRING
Please check your school supply list to find out if your child needs to bring a recorder or music folder to class.
*4th graders will play the recorder. It should be on the 4th grade school supply list. If you need a recorder, these are available for purchase in the school bookstore for $7. If you have any challenges purchasing a recorder, please e-mail me. I am very happy to work with your child's teacher and use school resources to help.

PARTICIPATION
Music is for everyone. It doesn't take a special talent to enjoy singing, dancing, discovering instruments, or be a good audience member. Getting involved is the way we discover new things about the world and ourselves. This means participation is important.

If any of my students are having difficulty with the above, I will send home a note describing what happened, so we can work together to improve outcomes.

1st Time  - Conduct Grade drops to G
2nd Time - Conduct Grade drops to S (plus note home)
3rd Time - Conduct Grade drops to N (plus note home)
4th Time  - Conduct Grade drops to U (plus note home)

I look forward to making music with all the PK-4th grade Li'l Panthers!!
Let’s have a fantastic year!
