Is Your Child Ready For Kindergarten? 2021-22 School Year

Here are some tips for parents to help their child get ready for their Kindergarten year at Bartlett Elementary:

This Summer:
1.Write their name with clear handwriting (first letter capitalized and rest lower-case).
2. Letter Recognition – Know both the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet. Quiz with flashcards.
3. Number recognition – Recognize the numbers 0-10 in random order and be able to count to 30.
4. Foster Independence – Please have students practice opening their snack and lunch items, tying shoes, and using belts, zippers, and buttons.
5. Practice opening and closing car doors and buckling and unbuckling seatbelts independently. This makes arrival and dismissal run smooth and we have less tears.

Here are some tips for helping your child excel as a student in Kindergarten:

During the School Year:
1. Sight words - Students need to read the assigned sight words as we introduce them throughout the year. Practice with them regularly.
2. Counting to 100 - Students need to be able to count to 100 by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s. Practice with them regularly.
3. Reading - Work with them on their letter sounds and blending those sounds together to read words. Find time to let them read to you nightly.

Friday, Feb. 26th Will be a Virtual for All BCS Students

We are pleased to announce that we have worked with the Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) to provide the COVID-19 vaccine for BCS employees. Due to this great opportunity, Friday, February 26th, will be a virtual day for all students. All extracurricular activities will continue, but before and after school care is cancelled.

We are incredibly thankful to have this opportunity and take the next step in making our schools safer for all students and employees.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to move forward!

BCS Open Tuesday, Feb. 23rd

UPDATE: All BCS schools and offices will be OPEN on Friday, February 12th. All students, including virtual students, will resume their schedules as normal. All after school activities will also resume. Thank you for your understanding and continue to stay safe.

All BCS Students Will Be Virtual Monday, Feb. 22nd

All BCS students will be virtual Monday, February 22nd due to bus routes, school parking lots and walkways on our campuses still being hazardous. Our team checked around the city and campuses earlier this evening and determined this was the safest choice. Your child’s school will communicate information regarding daily schedules. Please check your child’s school website and your email for additional information.

We understand that the weather conditions may have impacted some families, and all may not have access to power or the internet. Your child’s teacher will be flexible with those situations.

We hope you will continue to stay warm and stay safe!

BCS Virtual Hints and Helps

In the event that we have 100% virtual instruction due to the current weather situation, here are some Virtual School helps and hints.

Your Little Panther's teacher will email you with specific instructions, zoom links, schedules, etc.

Connecting Device to At-Home Network:

Mrs. Howlett made some quick videos if you need instruction in connecting the student device to your home wifi:

Laptop: https://shorts.flipgrid.com/watch/16154894005698800-laptop

iPad- https://shorts.flipgrid.com/watch/16155024470049038-ipad

General Troubleshooting Tips:

First thing for both laptop and iPad, is to either restart or power off and then back on.

Recently, Curve errors have been solved by clearing the cache/history.

For the laptop-
First, clear the cache for the Internet browser.
In Safari: https://shorts.flipgrid.com/watch/15875398757254112

1. Open Safari - Click Safari (next to the apple in the top left)
2. Click Clear History
3. Set the dropdown to All History
4. Click Clear History

In Google Chrome: https://shorts.flipgrid.com/watch/15875382623339466

1. Open Google Chrome - Click Chrome (next to the apple in the top left)
2. Click Clear Browsing Data
3. Set time range to All Time
4. Click All three boxes
5. Click Clear Data

Next, run the Magic Button. It works quietly in the background making sure everything is up to date. It may pop up a window saying "this item is no longer available" once it finishes.

1. Go to the BCS App Store
2. Click Run on the Magic Button
3. Once that finishes, Restart the computer

For the Ipad-
If any of your kids are getting a weird Curve error message, it can be fixed by clearing the history. Here are 2 videos that tell them what to do depending on what browser they are using. It wouldn’t hurt to do both either.

Clearing History- Chrome

Clearing History-Safari

After doing that, I would suggest that they click the home button twice, swipe up on all open tabs. Power the iPad completely off and then turn back on.
